The romantic comedy depicts a hapless protagonist and his beautiful love interest — The plot starts when the girl he likes falls into a spring, and then appears the "Goddess of the Spring", who asks, "A golden maiden, or a silver maiden: which of them did you drop into my spring?" This leads the original to be split into two girls. The "Golden Maiden" is the graceful and ladylike type, while the "Silver Maiden" is the mischievous, foulmouthed, and straightforward type.
